Sanitation and Hand Washing

Disinfecting remains a vital part of reducing the spread of sickness. Washing hands can prevent the spread of COVID-19 from one person to the next. Prevent sickness by:

  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces
  • Cleaning and disinfecting your cell phone
  • Laundering items using the warmest appropriate water setting and dry completely
  • Using proper cough and sneeze hygiene and throw used tissue in trash

You can help yourself and your loved ones by washing your hands often or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, especially during these key times when you are likely to get and spread germs:

  • Before, during, and after preparing food
  • Before eating food
  • Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick
  • Before and after treating a cut or wound
  • After using the toilet/changing diapers
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
  • After handling pet food or pet treats
  • After touching garbage
  • After contact with frequently touched surfaces
