Better Birth Outcomes (BBO-C) is a free program that offers 1:1 support to pregnant and postpartum individuals along with their newborn infants through the first 6 months of life.

Services include: 

  • at least 1 head-to-toe nursing assessment completed on mother and infant at the beginning of care 
  • prenatal through infant education: teaching mothers how to stay healthy during pregnancy, how to be ready for labor and delivery, and how to keep new babies healthy with well-child visits and immunizations
  • ongoing support and connection to local resources

Eligibility

Who is Eligible?

Those wishing to join BBO must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Pregnant or postpartum individuals up to six months after birth and/or infants up to six months after birth
  • Household income less than 200% federal poverty level
  • The presence of at least one risk factor as noted in the Vulnerability Index

Vulnerability Index

  • previous preterm, low birth weight, or infant loss
  • high blood pressure, diabetes, or other health concerns
  • current/recent tobacco, alcohol, or drug use, or are in recovery
  • housing instability, domestic violence, or DCFS involvement
  • a baby with special medical needs or born very small/early

 

Additional Kendall County Health Department Services for Moms & Babies

APORS (Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes Reporting System) Program

Regular visits with a registered nurse after your baby is born and up to six months to ensure mom and baby are healthy.

 

WIC (Women, Infants, & Children) Program

Supplemental nutrition program for:

  • Pregnant Women
  • Breastfeeding Women
  • Infants
  • Children up to age five

 

VFC (Vaccines for Children) Program

  • Vaccines for eligible kids from birth to 18 years of age.
  • Designed for underinsured or uninsured families.
