Senior Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIP) help you navigate the complexities of Medicare. SHIPs provide local, in-depth, and unbiased insurance counseling and assistance to Medicare-eligible individuals, families, and their caregivers. There is NO CHARGE for this help.

When can I enroll in Medicare?

  • SHIPs can help you understand key dates to help you avoid late penalties!  

 

When does Medicare Open Enrollment take place?  

  • Medicare Open Enrollment takes place from October through December. 
  • Contact your local SHIP for 1-on-1 assistance with reviewing your health or prescription drug plan options! 

 

When does Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment take place?

  • Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment takes place from January 1st through March 31st. 
  • Contact your local SHIP for support in navigating Medicare versus Medicare Advantage plans!  

 

What should I do if I'm worried about the out-of-pocket costs associated with Medicare? 

  • Contact your local SHIP to find out about assistance programs you or your loved one might be eligible for!  

 

Already Scheduled Your SHIP Appointment? 

Here’s what to expect:  

  • Our SHIP Coordinator will walk you through the specific Medicare options available to you or your loved one and support you through the decision of selecting the option that best fits your needs.  
  • SHIP appointments can be scheduled for an hour to an hour and a half to fully review your needs and options.  
  • Please bring the following items to your SHIP appointment.  
    1. Medicare card 
    2. Driver's license and/or state identification 
    3. Your personal cell phone device
    4. Proof of income for all income sources, including social security, employment, etc. 
    5. Information on how you heard about our SHIP program
