SNAP Benefit Renewal

SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that used to be called Food Stamps. SNAP helps low income people buy the food they need for good nutritional health. If you qualify for SNAP, you will get an Illinois Link card. Each month, the amount of your SNAP benefits will be added to your Link Card account, and you can use it like a debit card to pay for food at most grocery stores.

For those who already receive SNAP benefits, you must take action to extend SNAP benefits that expire at the end of October 2020. If you received a renewal notice from the IL Department of Human Services (DHS) in September, you must submit documents to continue receiving benefits in November. Your benefits may be canceled if you do not submit a renewal.

You can submit a renewal by completing and signing the renewal form mailed to you with your renewal notice, as well as submitting the required documents. You can also renew online at ABE.illinois.gov by using/creating a Manage My Case account.

If you miss the October deadline, you can still continue your benefits, but you should take action as soon as possible. If you submit the renewal form and documents before the end of October, you will receive full November benefits, though they may be delayed.  If you submit the renewal form and documents in November, you will receive partial month benefits for November. If you don’t take action before the end of November, you will have to reapply for SNAP and you will not receive benefits for November.
