Kendall County Coronavirus Update

Second COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Approved
On March 30, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) authorized a second booster shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna coronavirus vaccines:
- for everyone 50 years of age and older
- for 12 to 49 years of age if moderately to severely immunocompromised
This dose can be received no earlier than 4 months after receiving the first booster dose. For details, see https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/immuno.html.
Data has shown the importance of vaccination and booster doses to prevent and minimize COVID-19 infection. According to the CDC, during the Omicron surge, boosted individuals were 21 times less likely to die from COVID-19 compared to those unvaccinated.
Kendall County Health Department has vaccine clinics scheduled Tuesday, April 5th, as well as Thursday April 14th. Individuals should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition, and whether getting a second booster dose is appropriate for them.
