Vacation and Vaccines

With COVID-19 cases declining, families are traveling again to see family members and friends across the United States and in foreign countries. International travel increases your chances of getting and spreading diseases that are rare or not found in United States. Vaccines are available to prevent and protect you from acquiring many diseases when traveling.

Before you travel, make sure you are up to date on all of your routine vaccines. There are recommended vaccination schedules for infants and children, adolescents, and adults.

Additionally, children should be up to date with vaccinations required for schools.

Kendall County Health Department is encouraging all who need boosters or required vaccines to schedule appointments today. It is of utmost importance to provide protection for the young and old prior to traveling to your favorite destination.

If a family member presents with a rash and fever after travel, please notify your primary care provider immediately and follow up to be safe. Cases of Measles, Tuberculosis, and other diseases are on the rise in foreign countries, and being vigilant will prevent further spread of disease in the United States.

Please call 630-553-9100 or go to www.kendallhealth.org, under Community Health – Travel Clinic Vaccine to complete the Travel Clinic Questionnaire. This questionnaire will assist you in obtaining health and safety information for your chosen destination! Additionally, you can visit CDC’s Travelers’ Health page to identify precautions and specific recommendations for a travel destination.
