Biting Incident - Parent Information Sheet

Your child was involved in a biting incident where a break in the skin occurred. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend the following post exposure measures for biting victims:

Wash the wound immediately with soap and water. (This was done at school).

DO NOT pour alcohol, bleach, peroxide or any other substance cleanser on the child’s wound or in the mouth.

Take your child to a healthcare provider or local emergency care facility immediately. The healthcare provider should assess the wound and determine whether further treatment or testing is required.
